Db2 12.1 highlights
Personally, there is no single item that stands out, but Db2 12.1 delivers a long list of solid new features. Start with Iqbal's blog post 12 features to watch out for in Db2 12.1 to get an overview.
- A big change is that on Linux Db2 12.1 has replaced Tivoli System Automation (TSA) with Pacemaker. as cluster manager. Pacemaker was already introduced in an earlier release for HADR. So this was the next logical step.
- Another significant change is the introduction of the AI Query Optimizer. It automatically discovers and trains AI models to perform query optimization and adds to and replaces the traditional cost-based optimization.
- Db2 12.1 introduces TENANTs as namespaces within a database. It allows for multiple users sharing a single Db2 database "as their own" without naming and privilege collisions.
- There is a long list of new features and enhancements for high availability, backup, resiliency and recovery.
- There are many improvements to the Db2 client libraries and drivers, including new support for the Apple Silicon chips.
- It's also worth, as usual, to check out the list of discontinued and list of deprecated functionality.
